Breakouts for Sep 29th: The first pick, ASVI, sits just shy of a breakout, but the close over $35.80 favors further upside. There has been no stock related news since early August, and no upcoming announcements planned, but recent buying suggests something is in the works. MACD is on the verge of a breakout and on balance volume is at new 5-month highs. This stock looks the best of today's picks at current prices. The second pick, TRA, closed at new highs on very heavy volume. The weekly chart looks over extended and a potential selling point may be earnings on Oct 28th. Having said that, the technicals favor the bulls with a MACD trigger line well above the zero line and an on-balance volume reading at new highs. GTC orders down to $8.15 with a stop at $7.99 would provide minimum risk assuming a fill. The third pick, SNG, is working its way through a new base after a collapse from $3.65 highs. Technical strength is improving, although buyers may want to use GTC orders 2-5 cents above $1.75 to add to a small position taken off the open. The weekly chart looks very good with "three white soldiers" (three weeks of higher open and higher close) combined with a move over the 20- and 50-week exponential moving average. The price target is based on probable resistance from prior price congestion in early 2004.
