Breakouts for Oct 1st: The first pick, HURC, broke through $11.68 resistance on heavy volume, completing a bullish flag. Favorable PR helped spark the move. On-balance volume broke to new highs, but the MACD trigger line remains below resistance. Weekly chart shows a positive test of the 50-week exponential moving average which has facilitated the current rally. Today marked the third big volume (buying) spike over the last 7 weeks, this should be good to break resistance. Price target based on depth of base and psychological resistance ($20). The second pick, SWC, is working its way through a symmetrical consolidation triangle (see weekly chart). Prices have bounced off the 40-week moving average on rising money flow. Point-n-figure charts give a price target of $20.00, but based on the width of the triangle $25 should be reachable. There was no company specific news to account for today's move although the mining sector in general performed well today. Patient buyers may want to use GTC orders down to $15.05 to take advantage of potential weakness, although today's volume and price action suggests more upside tomorrow. The third pick, APH, inched over resistance but remains vulnerable to selling given the stock has remained within a trading range over the last year. On balance volume has moved to new highs which favors further upward movement. GTC buy orders down to $32 would reduce risk considerably, although a solid move tomorrow would clear the trading range and convert $34.25 into strong support. APH was added to the S&P on Monday.
