Breakouts for Nov 18th: The first pick, DTPI, published earnings last Friday. The stock spent the first half of the week moving in a sideways pattern before breaking out today on heavier volume. The price target is based on the size of the "pole" added to the bottom of the base. The stock has moderate technical strength; a bullish MACD crossover as part of a larger bearish divergence, on-balance volume shy of a breakout, and slow stochastics at overbought levels. The second pick, IONA, broke a 3-month consolidation pattern on the back of its earnings release. Today's move is likely to ease over the coming weeks, so placing GTC buy orders around $5.00 should be good to add (or take) a position here. Technical strength is good; a sharply rising MACD after a bullish crossover in the trigger signal line, a breakout in on-balance-volume and slow stochastics at overbought levels. Note on the weekly chart the break of the 20- and 50-week exponential moving averages. The price target is based on a test of the 52-week high. The third pick, MRY, has enjoyed some very heavy volume buying, with a short 6-week cup-and-handle consolidation for the months of October and November. Note the break in on-balance volume to fresh highs. Slow stochastics are nicely positioned for further gains and the MACD trigger line has already signaled a 'buy' although it still has some work to do to negate the bearish divergence. The stock filed its earnings last Tuesday. GTC orders at $2.56 may be good for a fill tomorrow.
