Breakouts for May 10th: The first pick, ALXN, is set to present Thursday at the Morgan Stanley Third Annual Global Healthcare Conference. Price made a significant move past near term resistance, supported by resistance breakouts in each of the technical indicators. The point-n-figure chart remains interesting. The price target is $13.00, but a move to $27.00 will negate this target and trigger a triple top breakout. My price target is drawn from a projected base move. The second pick, GEMS, featured as a breakout for October 20th. The stock did not escape overall market malaise as it sold off back to $1.70 support, but since then it has enjoyed a spate of buying which has pushed on-balance-volume to new highs. The planned acquisition of Universal Music group's North American and central European CD and DVD manufacturing operations sparked today's big gains. GTC buy orders down to $2.26 may still be good enough for fills. The stock is still working through a base started in January 2004. The next point of resistance looks to be April-May 2004 highs and it is here where I have placed my price target. The third pick, NNI, continues its ascent, breaking past $34.90 resistance. GTC buy orders down to $35 should be good enough to take advantage here. Technical strength is led by new highs in on-balance-volume and overbought slow stochastics. The point-n-figure chart has an upside price target of $63.50 but I would take this one psychological resistance at a time (i.e. whole number resistance, chief of which will be $50). The company had released earnings on April 29th.
