Breakouts for June 21st : Little in the way of quality picks. The following have merits on a technical level but little to warrant a long term holds based on fundamentals. The first pick, COR, has developed a relatively tight range near the upper end of its move from $1 to $3. The break of the latter price would look to be key for momentum players although it would take a push to $4 to change the picture on the point-n-figure chart. Volume got a nice uptick which resulted in a bullish cross for on-balance-volume. The MACD trigger line is also close to a new 'buy' signal. I couldn't find any news to account for the 2 pm rush of buying (??). I have opted for a measured move price target. The second pick, PMU, is a low price AMEX mining play. The stock is doing its best to break from a double bottom after a 4-month decline from an early year double top. The 200-day MA is perhaps the biggest obstacle in its way, but improving technicals: a rising MACD trigger line, bullish crosses in on-balance-volume and slow stochastics, and a gain for bullish trend strength over bearish trend strength [+DI > -DI; ADX > 20 but falling] - all point to rising bull power. The point-n-figure chart even holds to a November 30th bullish triangle breakout. The last news about the company was released way back in April - very surprising - results should be soon. A pocket money play at best. The third pick, CFW, is the only traditional breakout of the three stocks presented here. The stock had provided an operational update on Tuesday afternoon which may have helped boost the price on Wednesday. The break of resistance was supported by a nicked breakout in on-balance-volume. Technicals are improving with bullish trend strength well ahead of bearish strength [+DI > -DI; ADX > 20 and rising], even if the MACD trigger line still has some work to do to reach April/May highs. The weekly chart shows the stock working off key resistance at $5.75 which if it can do by Friday would likely signal the end of a 12-month base. The point-n-figure chart is neutral but a move to $6.00 would be enough to signal a breakout and negate the current p-n-f chart target of $2.00. I am looking for a move to May 2006 highs as a target.

For those who prefer to set their own price targets the table opposite represents the frequency for a given % return (taken from maximum highs) assuming a fill at at the stated "Buy" price on the open (i.e. the prior days close). The return per trade from 5% risk is typical of what my subscribers can expect from their picks. The return per trade from 10% risk is what one can expect from my free stock picks. Returns will be higher on fills below my "Buy" price
