Breakouts for Jan 5th: A spate of recent breakout picks hit their stop prices, leaving 17 breakout failures to 1 succes for December compared to 22 successes and 29 failures in September. Therefore, treat any breakout over this month and next with extreme caution. Gold member stocks will feature oversold plays. The first pick, KVHI, first featured as a gold member play on Oct 22nd. I have raised the stop and target price from gold member parameters. Today's diamond in the rough was obtained following an analyst's upgrade. A bullish MACD trigger line crossover and breakout to new highs in on-balance-volume are tempered by a slow stochastic which is no longer overbought. The price target is from point-n-figure projections. The second pick, SONC, featured as a gold member play on Oct 14th. I have increased the stop and target price from the earlier posting. Today's breakout is supported by a bullish crossover in the MACD trigger line and a strong slow stochastic. Today's breakout was the result of strong earnings. The stock earned a mention in an afterhour report on The Street. The price target is drawn from point-n-figure projections. The third pick, CERS, continues its climb in the absence of stock related news. The latest breakout is not only supported by volume, but also a bullish crossover in the MACD trigger line (above the bullish zero line) and a breakout in on-balance-volume. The stock first featured as a breakout on Sep 22nd as it began to emerge from its base. The price target is based on resistance from point-n-figure charts.
