Breakouts for Jan 4th: The first pick, TLAB, was one of the few winners today. Likely to see some weakness tomorrow, so GC orders down to $8.90 remain the best bet for a fill with a stop just below today's breakout gap. The stock benefited from an upgrade which helped push it past resistance. Supporting the move in price were breakouts in the MACD trigger line and on-balance-volume. The main cautionary note is the presence of resistance as marked by the declining trendline on the point-n-figure chart, and the bearish price objective of $6.00 - a move to $10.50 negates the bearish price target. The second pick, EFX, is a solid fundamental play showing a good priced breakout on heavy volume. Supporting the break in price is a breakout in on-balance-volume and a bullish crossover in the MACD trigger line. The price target is drawn from point-n-figure chart projections, although resistance lurks at $31.00. The third pick, WAG, broke a 2-month sideways congestion to the upside on heavy volume following a 31% jump in quarterly earnings. The break will likely ease tomorrow to test new support at $39.50, providing a good opportunity to buy or add to a position. This is another stock with strong technicals; a bullish crossover in the MACD and a break of resistance in on-balance-volume. Beyond $45 there is no resistance.
