Breakouts for Jan 11th: The first pick, RATE, has excellent Investors Business Daily rankings and has completed a very bullish "three white soldier" candlestick combination. GTC buy orders down to the open price of the second candlestick (c $14.75) can be used to add to positions taken from tomorrow's open. Supporting the strong move in price is a bullish crossover in the MACD trigger line and a breakout in on-balance-volume. The recent move was started by an analyst upgrade. The second pick, DJO, raised Q4 sales, and as result broke price resistance. The technical picture is not as strong as RATE's but the stock is working itself out of a 15-month base. A check of the weekly chart shows a close over the 40-week moving average. Weekly technicals are stronger than daily parameters - but set your stops using the daily chart. The point-n-figure price target is $36.50. The third pick, HLEX, originally featured as breakout on Nov 24th. I have raised the price target and stop price for the stock. The company has been relatively news shy, but technically it has the strongest set up, led by a sharply rising on-balance-volume. Today's breakout coincided with a "buy" signal on the MACD trigger line. There is no overhead resistance and the price target is set from point-n-figure targets.
