Breakouts for Feb 7th: The first pick, APCC, jumped past resistance as the company topped forecasts. The stock closed weaker as a test of $21.66 support is mapped out. It may be possible to get fills down to $21.85 on Monday morning weakness. The breakout ended a three month consolidation. The breakout followed a bullish crossover in the MACD trigger line and a breakout in on-balance-volume. The point-n-figure target is $43.50 continuing a double top breakout from Oct 29th 2004. The second pick, BFR, is a base breakout play. It is hard to find news on this (Argentinean) company and it is one of the worst stocks in its sector (as ranked by Investors Business Daily). However, the chart does show strong price action, with Friday's completion of a cup-and-handle breakout. Supporting the price break was a crossover in the MACD trigger line, new highs in on-balance-volume, and overbought slow stochastics. The stock remains in a long term downtrend - see the point-n-figure chart. Resistance on the point-n-figure chart is shown at $10.00 and $11.50. The price target is based on a test of the latter trendline resistance ($11.50). The third pick is RUS, is a potential bullish pole reversal play on point-n-figure charts. Key resistance lurks at $35.00, but there are two gap downs to close, the first at $26, and the second at $35. The 50-day moving average crossed above the 200-day moving average generating a long term buy signal. The company has been news shy, the company last announced the acquisition of Kids line on Dec 16th. I have set the price target at the higher of the two gaps. Friday's breakout was from a bullish ascending triangle. Rising technicals support the bull cause. Future weakness will be marked by a bearish divergence in the MACD trigger line.
