Breakouts for Feb 24th: The first pick, FVE, broke to new highs following two days of heavier volume accumulation in the absence of stock related news. The company was rated a 'buy' by Ferris Baker Watts on February 10th. A move to $9.00 sets up a double top breakout on the point-n-figure chart with an upside target of $17.69 based on a projected base breakout. Slow stochastics are rising, but not yet overbought - favoring a continuation of the upward momentum The bearish divergence in the MACD trigger line has been breached and is supported by new near term highs in on-balance-volume. The second pick, OPTN, announced earnings, a Q4 dividend of $0.02 a share, and a 3-for-2 stock split. Adding to the 'love-in' were two upgrades from Jeffries and Co. and Raymond Jones. The break in price was supported by a breakout in on-balance-volume and overbought slow stochastics, although the MACD trigger line remained below resistance. Look to buy a pullback to intraday support at $19.00. The point-n-figure projected target is $30.00 as the stock trades at new 4-year highs. The third pick, PLXT, traded heavily into the close in the absence of stock related news. Buyers should look to a test of $11.30 support as a potential buying opportunity. Bearish divergences in the MACD trigger line and on-balance-volume were breached by recent trading action. And overbought slow stochastics favors the bulls. Weekly resistance lurks at $17.00 ($13.50 on point-n-figure chart). The point-n-figure chart shows an upside target of $20.00.
