Breakouts for Dec 30th: The first pick, CELG, broke to new highs on analyst comments from Morgan Stanley. The stock is in the rarified air of no resistance and has enjoyed a solid run from $14 lows. I am sticking with the point-n-figure target on this one, but this is a mature rally and the extended run is likely closer to an end than a beginning. Technicals are in line with a stock coming out of a correction with slow stochastics at the mid-line and a MACD trigger 'buy'. The second pick, HLT, closed at new near term highs as part of a right-hand-side base. The move came on the buyout of the UK and European Hilton group. Technicals favor continued gains with a solid accumulation line, overbought slow stochastics, and a MACD trigger line above the bullish mid-line. The real move will come on a break of $25 as this will put the stock at new 5-year highs. GTC buy orders down to $23.45 could have merits, although intraday action (10-min) shows a build up of pressure on $24 resistance. Follow the trend. The third pick, ONT, is an AMEX play which has enjoyed some heavy volume accumulation over the past week. The stock soared on a deal with XMSR radio. Of the three breakout picks this stock has the strongest technicals with new near term highs in on-balance-volume and the MACD trigger line. Look to accumulate in the $0.93-1.08 range as the days gains are digested. The good news for bulls is the lack of resistance up to $3 with further resistance at $4.50 (where I have put my price target). A move to $1.50 will register as a double top breakout on the point-n-figure chart.
