Breakouts for Dec 23rd: The first pick, CIEN, is featured on my stockchart list. The stock still looks to be riding its early earnings forecast, but today's higher volume breakout completed a close over the 200-day moving average. Supporting the price move was a new high in the MACD trigger line, rising slow stochastics, and on-balance volume on the verge of a breakout. The first point of contention will be $3.85 resistance, but there should be sufficient momentum to take this to the next resistance level at $5.50. The second pick, GDTI, originally featured as a breakout on Oct 22nd but was stopped out on the resulting correction. The stock has once again challenged its near term highs, led by a breakout in on-balance-volume, but I would remain cautious in this relatively thinly traded issue. Patient buyers can wait for pullback to the low $5s using GTC buy orders to accumulate shares. Given recent accumulation the company has been relatively PR light. The third pick, IMNR, has enjoyed a series of buying spikes interspaced with periods of light trading. As in previous jumps in price it should be possible to buy shares on a pullback to nearest support, in this case $1.32. Technicals are well positioned, with the MACD trigger line generating a "buy" signal today, on-balance-volume breaking to new highs, and a rising slow stochastic which has yet to reach overbought levels - favoring a continuation of the latest move.
