Breakouts for Dec 17th: Not the greatest set of breakouts for today, so I have focused on a couple of penny stocks that have speculative merit. The first pick, WEL, is a featured fundamental scan play even with roller coaster financials. The stock is working from a deep base, although recent accumulation can be attributed to strength in the oil sector and services industry. There are a number of overhead resistance points ($1.11 and $1.30 are marked on the chart), but it should be good for a run to larger resistance at $1.75. Decent technicals, lead by new highs in on-balance-volume and a MACD trigger line above the bullish line. The price projection featured on my scan is a long term price objective. The second pick, COVD, rocketed on news of a DSL sharing agreement with Verizon. Today's 35% gain is likely to ease over the coming days, and support at $1.95 and $2.15 looks best for placing GTC buy orders. Strong technicals are lead by new highs in the MACD trigger line and on-balance-volume. Excellent volume, not an illiquid stock, but suffers from Bulletin Board status. The third pick, BIZ, likely benefited from sector strength, although it has been relatively news shy since November. Plenty of liquidity (even if a penny stock) and good technicals lead by breakouts in the MACD trigger line and on-balance-volume, plus rising slow stochastics. The upside price target is based on weekly resistance. It should be possible to get fills around $0.23.
