Breakouts for Aug 10th: The first pick, GTI, gained on the back of an upgrade by JP Morgan which was good enough to push the stock over $5.45 resistance. The small breakdown gap from March beckons although some measure of resistance can be expected on a move to the lows of this big red candlestick (c$6.50). The stock's recent advance is off the back of a bullish divergence in the MACD trigger line and a bullish slow stochastic, but as of yet no breakout in on-balance-volume. The point-n-figure target shows a price target of $8.75 which closely matches that of key resistance as part of a July 13th triple top breakout. The second pick, SYNC, continued is spate of positive PR as it announced it has surpassed 500,000 wireless email users. The news pushed price into a supply zone marked by $2.95 support and $3.12 resistance. However, with slow stochastics and the MACD trigger line at new near term highs we should see a break of $3.12. The point-n-figure chart target of $8.00 remains in play although the stock will need to pass $3.25 to negate the recent bearish reversal. The stock had featured as a breakout for March 23rd but disappointed. Therefore I have kept a relatively modest price target. The third pick is SLXP, gained on earnings, managing a solid break of $20.17 resistance. GTC buy orders down to $20.21 should be good enough for fills Wednesday. A MACD trigger line 'buy' signal and a new near term high in on-balance-volume support the move - but slow stochastics have yet to jump into overbought mode nor do we have a clear breakout to new highs in on-balance-volume - confirmation should occur in these indicators over the coming days. The point-n-figure chart shows an upside target of $28.00 as part of a July 7th triple top breakout. My price target is drawn from a projected base move.
