Breakouts for Apr 8th: The first pick, GTIV, breached resistance following an upgrade by Jefferies and Co. Supporting the move in price were new highs in on-balance-volume and is on the way to breaching the bearish divergence in the MACD trigger line. Slow stochastics recently crossed the bullish mid-line but still have some distance to reach overbought levels, favoring a continuation of today's breakout. Patient buyers may wish to wait for a move inside the breakout gap before buying. The point-n-figure chart shows a double top breakout as of Thursday with an upside target of $23.50. The current consolidation between $14.00 and $17.60 dates back to April 2004 - so today's breakout should generate a solid upside move. The second pick, ACMR, is working through a base with key resistance lurking at $31.37. The stock did feature as a breakout in November. The company was upgraded by Morgan Keegan even though Q1 same store sales declined. Point-n-figure chart shows no price pattern but a rally begun in early 2003 remains intact. Cautious buyers may wait for a break of $28.27 before buying. Technicals lie below resistance, further gains tomorrow will produce breakouts in the MACD trigger line and on-balance-volume - confirming strength of Thursday's breakout. The third pick, CNTY, frequently featured on this site. The stock last broke on December 8th, although the breakout failed to hold above its suggested stop price. The company is set to release its annual report late with an expected net eps for the year of $0.36. The stock price has reached a critical juncture, $10 resistance. A breach of this will bring its point-n-figure target of $20.25 into range - but this stock has moved with little pause from lows of $0.75 - so watch this important psychological level for resistance. A move to $10 will trigger a double top breakout on the point-n-figure chart.
