Breakouts for April 4th: The first pick is ABP. The stock marked a double top breakout on the point-n-figure chart with an upside target of $5.25. The stock had released its 10-K on March 29th but this was the last news released from the company. Improving technical picture with new highs in on-balance-volume although a MACD trigger line bearish divergence remains in play. Slow stochastics at overbought levels marks strong bullish momentum. If you click on the chart below you will see a 2-year weekly chart which shows a lovely cup-and-handle pattern. The projected move from this pattern is just over $5.00 (closely matching the point-n-figure target). The second pick is ENER. The stock first featured as a breakout play for Oct 12th, and as a gold member swing trade for Oct 20th. The stock's breakout is part of a point-n-figure ascending triple top breakout from March 1st with an upside price target of $30.50 with no overhead resistance. As with ABP there is a bearish divergence in the MACD trigger line which has still to be breached, but new highs in on-balance-volume and slow stochastics at overbought levels give the nod to the bulls. An excellent Investor Business Daily rank makes this the prime pick of the breakout candidates. The projected base target lies just below the point-n-figure target and is the one I choose to use. The third pick is, EENC, has been a short term rollercoaster since its breakout for Feb 22nd. The February breakout reversed to cut below support of its ascending triangle but was resilient enough not to retrace the entire triangle, instead it traded in a sideways pattern around $18.00 until Friday when the company had reported record 2004 earnings. The stock marked a double top point-n-figure breakout on March 18th with an upside target of $34.00. I have projected a target below psychological $30 resistance. The technical picture is improving with a break of a bearish divergence in the MACD trigger line. Interestingly, the technical picture for Friday was weaker than that of its failed February breakout. Best played to buy on a retracement to support using GTC buy orders. Highly ranked by Investors Business Daily.
