Breakouts for Apr 20th: The first pick, BOL, gapped up following strong earnings leaving behind a bear trap. Two of the three technical indicators reversed on the turn with the MACD trigger line the only indicator on a "sell". However, the MACD trigger line is above the bullish zero line and will likely generate a "buy" on Wednesday. Watch on-balance-volume for a confirmation of today's price breakout. Tuesday marked a triple top breakout on the point-n-figure chart with an upside target of $87.00. The second pick, TALK, is a base breakout play. An intraday retracement to $6.70 looks a good place for GTC buy orders. Conservative buyers should wait for a break of $7.47 before buying. Chief concerns were the crossover in the 50-day and 200-day moving average in late March and declining resistance (currently at $8.50) from the point-n-figure chart. Technicals remain mixed. Neither the MACD trigger line or on-balance-volume confirmed today's breakout (with breakouts of their own), although the MACD trigger line is above the bullish zero line as are slow stochastics above its bullish mid-line. The third pick, TBL, gapped to new highs as profits soar. Two potential avenues to add to a position are a retracement to support at $74.00 or to wait for a test of the breakout gap at $70.00. Mixed technical picture. Slow stochastics are below the bullish mid-line in a "no-mans-land" between this mid-line and oversold levels. On the plus side, on-balance-volume is at new highs. The MACD trigger line gave a "buy" as it regained the bullish zero line. Tuesday marked a double top breakout with an upside target of $91.00.
